| The old landfill in Sackville is not in use, but Halifax’s solid waste manager says the site is contributing about $60,000 a year to the city’s coffers.
The landfill is remembered for its nauseating smell. “Residents about two and a half kilometres away would be able to smell it on a windy day.”

Four more community wind energy projects were registered for environmental assessment in Nova Scotia this week.
The proposed projects include: Millbrook Community Wind, Truro Heights Community Wind, Whynotts Community Wind, and Chebucto Pockwock Community Wind.
The projects are being developed under the provincial community feed-in tariff (COMFIT) program.

| Although the wind blows at all hours of the day and night, there is generally much less demand for the electricity created at nighttime.
Means of storing that energy for use during the peak daytime hours are being explored and researched, and a new venture on PEI is setting up to begin tests on a system it has just purchased.

| Point Lepreau nuclear power-generating station, Atlantic Canada’s only nuclear power plant, is making power again - it had been forced offline because of startup problems.
The power station in New Brunswick stopped sending electricity to the province’s power grid almost three weeks ago, so it could adjust the chemistry of the water in boilers.

| Construction is now complete on the $183-million biomass-fueled power-generating facility in Point Tupper, and the plant is expected to be fully operational in the summer once additional testing is done.
The privately owned utility is expected to buy roughly 500,000 tonnes of biomass fuel for the 60-megawatt plant, and create more than 200 direct and indirect jobs.

| As part of legislation making Sable Island a National Park, ExxonMobil would retain horizontal drilling and seismic exploration rights on the spot.
The energy giant apparently demanded the right to drill under Sable Island, in exchange for giving up its right to drill on top of it.

| The URB has decided that NS Power's ratepayers are on the hook to fund NSP's $93-million share of the cost of building a controversial wind farm in Lunenburg County.

The Friends of River Road, a group from Terence Bay, Nova Scotia, wants the energy minister to withdraw his approval of a Halifax County wind farm - they say the project doesn’t have enough local support.

The station has operated at an average of just 68 percent capacity since it restarted in November, well below the 93 percent the utility projected.
