Swedish researchers have discovered that locomotion patterns in horses are influenced bu genetic makeup. Genetic inheritance allows for gaitedness through two separate effects: extra gait in some breeds, and fast trot in harness racing horses. Equine Herpes Virus -1 diagnosed in Quebec
Neurotropic Equine Herpes Virus-1 (nEHV-1) has been reported in a mare at a Quarter Horse stable in the province of Quebec. This is the neurological strain of Equine Herpes Virus 1 (EHV 1). Nfld. horse racing may be in the home stretch
After 50 years, horse racing in Nfld. is in financial trouble and may be coming to an end. Keith Gowan, president of the Newfoundland Harness Horse Owners Association, says the sport is simply not making enough money to keep going. Horse meat scandal spreads in Europe
