The state veterinarian studying the deaths of 23 animals at a Gorham farm says botulism can kill quickly.

Maine's state veterinarian has been working to find the source of a rare botulism outbreak that is believed to have killed 23 horses at the Whistlin' Willows Farm in Gorham in the past month.

| NB: Keith Reynolds, owner of the Fredericton stable that burned down last fall, has reopened his business at Carriage Hill Equestrian Centre and will host an Open House on May 26 from 10 am to 2 pm.
The stable will offer lessons, summer day camps, trail rides, training, and boarding. Some great new horses for lessons have been acquired in the past month.

Reigning Olympic champion Eric Lamaze finished in sixth place in the 200,000 € La Baule Grand Prix Longines at the CSIO 5* La Baule, FRA, riding Derly Chin De Muze.
Lamaze also finished in second place in the 23,000 € Prix EADS and seventh in the 23,000 € Prix Generali with Coriana van Klapscheut.

The Canadian Show Jumping Team comprised of Yann Candele, Tiffany Foster, Jill Henselwood and Ian Millar, finished in third place in the Nations’ Cup competition held Friday, May 11, at CSIO 4* Linz, AUT, which is being held from May 10–13, 2012.

While the exact cause of inflammatory small bowel disease (ISBD) in horses remains unknown, a group of Dutch researchers suspect that gluten intolerance could be a contributing factor of the disease. They recently tested their hypothesis and found that gluten sensitivity in horses is a possibility.
