Wage growth in Nova Scotia is lagging behind the rest of the country, according to the latest Statistics Canada figures.
The province recorded the lowest growth in pay in the nation in October compared with a year earlier, with average weekly earnings climbing just 0.4 per cent to $770.25, the national statistical agency reported Thursday.

A man accused of bringing foreign workers to Halifax illegally is expected in court Thursday.
The Canada Border Services Agency also claims Iftash Jacob was working without authorization himself.
Iftash and nine others — all from Israel — were arrested Wednesday in a raid on a home in Halifax and kiosks at three shopping malls.

| Atlantic Canada created nearly four times as many low-wage jobs than it did high-wage positions in the past 10 years, according to a study released Tuesday by the Atlantic Provinces Economic Council.
The think-tank defined low-wage jobs as those paying less than the overall average of $40,000 annually.

The process of 45 Thai workers recovering the money owed to them by Mariner Seafood continues as owner Mark Bonnell is in serious condition at the QEH.
His son Lorne said Mr Bonnell is undergoing treatment for heart failure, lung failure and pneumonia.

Wage growth on P.E.I. led the country in September, running against a national trend that saw wages actually fall, according to Statistics Canada.
Wages were up 2.8 per cent in September on the Island, contributing to an annual increase of 5.1 per cent. It was the third month in a row P.E.I. wages have maintained an annual wage increase above the national average.

If there was ever a good time for the government to table its controversial bill on first-contract arbitration, Thursday was it.
Tabling the bill a day after the demoralizing vote at Bowater Mersey was a symbolic salve for a union movement that has just sustained heavy casualties.
